Résumé
Tim Hose
Product Design Lead · Design Systems & AI
Product design lead who makes design systems work for people, and now for AI. I spent 14 years at Verizon: first in an in-house design group that grew from about 5 to 40, where I moved from designer to manager, then on the Verizon Design System, leading foundational work as it expanded from web into native iOS and Android. I also design and build my own tools with AI, like Feedbacker, a Figma plugin that gathers visual-QA bug comments and delivers them to developers, and my portfolio site, built with Claude Code on its own design-token pipeline with automated system checks.
Experience
Lead Experience Designer
Verizon Design Systems
Oct 2021 – Aug 2026 · Remote
- Led design for the native iOS and Android component library behind My Verizon, Verizon's main app, as the system grew beyond web: 40+ components used by teams across design, customer experience, billing, marketing and purchase flow. Worked with platform engineers from spec through build review.
- Helped define how teams propose and contribute components: a three-tier model of the official Verizon Design System, team-governed VDS extensions such as global navigation, and unofficial team libraries. Reviewed three widely needed team components for promotion through research, spec, Figma build, accessibility review, code and documentation, and two were promoted into the core system. Trained teams on the model.
- Guided product teams through the migration from VDS 3.0 to a rebuilt system for Verizon's new brand look, relaunched as VDS 1.0, which was most of the team's work. Every Figma component was updated and the code moved to React, with native following the web library. Worked with brand and design teams to keep components aligned with the new look. Helped set deprecation standards for breaking changes and trained designers to find and swap deprecated components with an in-house Figma deprecation mode.
- Defined native accessibility behavior, including Dynamic Type scaling limits, and mapped web shadows into native elevation. The native library met WCAG 2.1 AA at launch.
- Built the visual-QA team for the 40+ component native launch and the pass/fail tracking it ran on. The team caught about 500 to 600 issues across Figma components, specs and coded iOS and Android components before release. Personally cleared 15 components.
- Designed and built Feedbacker, a Figma plugin that compiles visual-QA notes from hundreds of component frames into one grouped list for developers, with links back to each issue on the canvas. Compiling feedback for each component's QA round went from about 30 minutes to about one. Five designers used it daily and up to 15 developers worked from its lists.
- Trained 200+ users of the system, designers, developers and stakeholders, in more than a dozen sessions, including agency partners on-site in Colombia and Costa Rica.
- Staffed the design system's Slack support channel, answering questions and helping resolve bugs. Walked engineers through Figma specs and documentation, and used Storybook to review implementation.
- Worked on token naming, color, and data visualization, ran early research on Tiles, and was on the team that launched Verizon's design-system MCP.
Manager, Visual Design
Verizon
Mar 2014 – Oct 2021
- Moved from designer to manager as Verizon's in-house design group grew from about 5 to 40 people across Little Rock and New Jersey.
- Led visual designers and copywriters, hiring and developing the team that shipped seven years of Verizon.com.
- Helped found the in-house digital brand agency and set Verizon Wireless visual standards, working with national agencies including R/GA, AKQA, and Moxie.
- Built and ran the visual-QA validation practice across design, front-end, IT, and release teams for a site with millions of daily visitors.
