  1. DESIGN SYSTEM · 2021–2026

    Verizon Design System

    Scaling a system that was already working

    • 2021–2026
    • native iOS and Android
    • 200+ trained designers

    CHALLENGE The system worked, more teams wanted it, and the team had to grow without losing what made it good.

    APPROACH Led early research on Tiles, then worked across components, specs, token naming, color, data viz, visual QA, and training, bridging design, engineering, and accessibility.

    RESULT The system grew from web into native iOS and Android, and to 200+ trained designers.

  2. CROSS-PLATFORM · iOS + ANDROID

    Web → Native

    One system, three platforms

    • iOS + ANDROID
    • 40+ native components
    • no compromise on parity

    CHALLENGE Native iOS and Android had to catch up to the web system on a tight timeline.

    APPROACH Led foundational native work, including Dynamic Type, and hired and led a visual-QA team to work through the library.

    RESULT 40+ native components brought to web-level quality, with no compromise on parity.

    CHALLENGE Two jobs, one muscle: first leading Verizon’s in-house design and copy team as it grew, then getting hundreds of designers to use the design system well.

    APPROACH Managed the team as it grew from 5 to 40, hiring many of them myself. Later onboarded Verizon’s entire CX design group to the design system, trained agency partners on-site in Colombia and Costa Rica and teams in India, and staffed the help desk.

    RESULT Seven years of Verizon.com shipped by the team I managed, and 200+ designers trained to use the system.

  4. Feedbacker compiles visual QA flags from a Figma canvas into one report. Untouched flags are ignored, 12 edited flags merge into 4 issues with links back to their sources, and the report can be placed on the canvas or copied for Slack or Jira.

    CHALLENGE Visual-QA feedback was scattered across files and threads. One round had 12 flags for 4 real issues.

    APPROACH Designed and built Feedbacker to compile flags into one Slack-ready handoff. Also on the team that launched Verizon’s design-system MCP.

    RESULT About 30 minutes down to about one per QA round: two clicks and a paste.

  5. PERSONAL PRODUCT · 0 → 1

    Family Archive

    A family history people can actually use

    • 8,775 relatives
    • 283 recipes
    • 904 photos and documents

    CHALLENGE Generations of stories scattered across boxes, hard drives, and several versions of the family tree.

    APPROACH Merged the branches into one source, then designed and directed an AI-assisted build where relatives add their own memories, recipes, and photos.

    RESULT 8,775 relatives, 283 recipes, 904 photos and documents, one designer.

WHERE I STAND

AI doesn’t make design systems less necessary. It makes them the only thing standing between your product and a very confident mess.

Teams can now generate a hundred screens before lunch. Without a system, that’s a hundred slightly different opinions about what a button is. With one, it’s a hundred screens that already agree with each other, and the people involved get to spend their time on the parts that need judgment.
