PRODUCT DESIGN LEAD · DESIGN SYSTEMS & AI

Making design systems work for people, and now for AI.

I'm a product designer with 20+ years in the craft, most recently at Verizon. My favorite problems are big and messy, the kind where a good system makes things better for everyone who touches it.

  • Dev friendly

I love working with engineering partners.

  • Accessible

I work until a design works for everyone.

  • Silo buster

Collaborating across teams isn’t just helpful, it’s vital to success.

  • Tool builder

No tool for repetitive tasks? Let’s change that.

This is basically my face and whatnot.

THE SHORT VERSION

What I do, and where the proof lives.

THE LONG VERSION

Selected work.

  1. DESIGN SYSTEM · 2021–2026

    Verizon Design System

Scaling a system that was already working

    View summary: Verizon Design System
    • 2021–2026
    • native iOS and Android
    • 200+ trained users

CHALLENGE The system worked, more teams wanted it, and the team had to grow without losing what made it good.

APPROACH Led early research on Tiles, then worked across components, specs, token naming, color, data viz, visual QA, and training, bridging design, engineering, and accessibility.

RESULT The system grew from web into native iOS and Android, and to 200+ trained users.

  2. CROSS-PLATFORM · iOS + ANDROID

    Web → Native

    One system, three platforms

    View summary: Web → Native
    • iOS + ANDROID
    • 40+ native components
    • no compromise on parity

CHALLENGE Native iOS and Android had to catch up to the web system on a tight timeline.

APPROACH Led foundational native work, including Dynamic Type, and hired and led a visual-QA team to work through the library.

RESULT 40+ native components brought to web-level quality, with no compromise on parity.

  3. LEADERSHIP · ENABLEMENT

    Leading & Enablement

Grow the people, and the work gets better.

Verizon.com homepages from 2012 to 2021, shown one year at a time in a browser window, with a film strip of each full page beside it.
Verizon.com, 2012–2021. Map of where the work took place: New York and New Jersey, Costa Rica, Colombia and India for design system training (India remotely), Los Angeles, Atlanta and Opelika, Alabama for the design team, and Little Rock, Arkansas for remote design system work.
    • managed 5 → 40
    • 200+ users trained
    • three continents

CHALLENGE Two jobs, one muscle: first leading Verizon’s in-house design and copy team as it grew, then getting hundreds of designers to use the design system well.

APPROACH Managed the team as it grew from 5 to 40, hiring many of them myself. Later onboarded Verizon’s entire CX design group to the design system, trained agency partners on-site in Colombia and Costa Rica and teams in India, and staffed the help desk.

RESULT Seven years of Verizon.com shipped by the team I managed, and 200+ users trained on the design system.

  4. AI TOOLING · FIGMA PLUGIN

    Feedbacker

Tools that do the boring part

    Open case study: Feedbacker
    • 12 flags
    • 4 real issues
    • two clicks and a paste

CHALLENGE Visual-QA feedback was scattered across files and threads. One round had 12 flags for 4 real issues.

APPROACH Designed and built Feedbacker to compile flags into one Slack-ready handoff. Also on the team that launched Verizon’s design-system MCP.

RESULT About 30 minutes down to about one per QA round: two clicks and a paste.

  5. PERSONAL PRODUCT · 0 → 1

    Family Archive

A family history people can actually use

    Open case study: Family Archive
    • 8,775 relatives
    • 283 recipes
    • 904 photos and documents

CHALLENGE Generations of stories scattered across boxes, hard drives, and several versions of the family tree.

APPROACH Merged the branches into one source, then designed and directed an AI-assisted build where relatives add their own memories, recipes, and photos.

RESULT 8,775 relatives, 283 recipes, 904 photos and documents, one designer.

  6. WEBSITE REDESIGN · LIVE

    The Fermentary

The best asset the brand owned was its menu

    View summary: The Fermentary
Redesigned home page: a dateline across the top with the phone number, happy hour and live opening status, then a full-bleed photo of the brewery bar behind the headline 'Brewed next door. Poured right here.', the second line in gold italic, with three teasers below for what's on tap, today's hours and private hire.

WHERE I STAND

AI doesn’t make design systems less necessary. It makes them the only thing standing between your product and a very confident mess.

Teams can now generate a hundred screens before lunch. Without a system, that’s a hundred slightly different opinions about what a button is. With one, it’s a hundred screens that already agree with each other, and the people involved get to spend their time on the parts that need judgment.

EXPERIENCE

Loads of experience.
